CEU Alumni organized the pre-departure orientation for new students from Ukraine

Thanks to the American Councils and the Kyiv Alumni Resource Center, Ukrainian Chapter of the Central European University Alumni and Friends Association met for a Pre-departure Orientation for the new cohort of Ukrainian students going to study at the CEU.

Alumni shared their success stories and tips on studying and surviving in Budapest, and used the meeting as an opportunity for fundraising. Online broadcast, made possible with Google Hangouts On Air, allowed me to participate in the meeting, remaining physically in Donetsk.

Following inspirational experience of my colleague Serhiy Shtukarin I desided to apply for Legislative Fellowship Program.

Step by step I’ve been passing all stages, like application process, TOEFL exam, an interview and waiting, waiting and waiting…

And yesterday I’ve got a mail:

Dear Nadya,Congratulations! American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is pleased to notify you that you have been selected as a finalist to participate in the Legislative Fellows cohort of Professional Fellows Program (PFP), sponsored by the U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  Should you accept, you are invited to travel to the United States this fall for a six-week professional development and cross-cultural exchange (October 1-November 9, 2013).This year in particular, selection was very competitive so you should be proud of your accomplishment.

And I really do!

I’m very excited about participation in this program. I really hope that internship in USA and living in a family will bring me a huge professional and personal experience.

It’s not clear yet where I’m going to work and live, so I’m going to share it and other relevant information connected with the Legislative Fellows cohort of Professional Fellows Program in this blog.

By exposing Ukrainian youth to the heritage of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the project will strengthen the grass root foundations of civil society and invigorate youth in troubled communities throughout the country.

The only pity is that I'm going to be in Cyprus on these days... Hope Donetsk residents will enjoy American culture!
