During the internship at
the Better Business Bureau Hawaii, I had a great opportunity to be an expo
volunteer at Wahine Forum 2017 and to promote integrity and trust together
with my host team among visitors of different age. Better Business Bureau is highly
recognizable among the community as it successfully implants trust into
business culture during the whole century operating not only locally but
internationally (i.e., Canada and Mexico). As of now, the BBB Hawaii accredited
2,442 businesses which cover approximately 130,000 employees. The BBB Hawaii is
indeed good example of building trust for the benefits of community, consumers,
and businesses.
On October 27, 2017, Wahine Forum
2017 itself welcomed nearly 850 attendees. The theme for the 2017 Wahine
Forum was: Work Together, Rise Together. It encouraged today’s
women leaders to become mentors and sponsors for the next generation. One recurring theme was that a woman must become the CEO
of her own career and life. US and
Global Service Line Leader for KPMG Customer and Operations Business Miriam
Hernandez made an inspiring speech about being a businesswoman and unconscious
biases she experiences. The fact that only 32 out of 500 CFOs of the
USA largest companies are females proves that there is great space for changes
and challenges.
Apart from that, I volunteered
for another event. On Saturday, October 21, 2017, the Pacific Aviation Museum
Pearl Harbor hosted the great event “Discover Your Future in Aviation 2017”.
The museum is located on historic Ford Island, an active military base, and
covers two huge former seaplane hangars that survived the December 7, 1941,
attack. I had a great pleasure to be an assistant for one of the very special
guests, Nagin Cox. She is a spacecraft operations engineer at NASA, Mars rover
driver, very motivated speaker and magnificent leader.
This
proves the fact that Professional Fellowship Program apart from providing great
professional opportunities give you a chance to meet people you most likely
will never meet in your ordinary life.
